John McCain: Obama Showed “Real Lack of Generosity of Spirit” in Not Crediting Bush for Surge Strategy – Video
Here is video of Sen. John McCain reacting to President Obama’s Iraq Speech, where he blasted Obama for a “real lack of generosity of spirit” in not giving President George W. Bush credit for the Surge Strategy that brought victory in Iraq.
McCain said about Obama’s Speech:
“The part that really disturbs me the most – I’m not surprised that he wouldn’t give George Bush credit. That’s just in the DNA of the individual, apparently. But when he said, ‘Our withdrawal will be conditions based,’ and then contradicted that by saying ‘We will begin to withdraw (from Afghanistan) in the middle of 2011′ – that’s an ambiguity in Afghanistan that could cause us to fail. Sean, our friends are discouraged. Our enemies are encouraged.”
“Outside of Kandahar last Fourth of July, I met a police chief – non-corrupt police chief. He said, “Yeah, the Taliban are telling us you are leaving next year, and that those of us who cooperate, they are going to cut off our heads.” And I said, “Do you believe we are leaving? He said, “Yes!” So, the fact that we are telling these people there – our friends and our enemies – and again the President reinforced that ambiguity tonight – puts young Americans in harm’s way unnecessarily, because I don’t believe we can succeed unless we say it is strictly conditions-based.”
McCain could not be more right about this. What Obama is doing is a disaster. Common sense says you don’t tell your enemies when you are leaving.
