Here is video of the Morning Joe crew introducing Florida Pastor Terry Jones, who had planned to burn copies of the Koran on September 11 before he canceled it yesterday. Mika Brzezinski introduced the Pastor, but then turned it over to Jon Meacham to give the Pastor a message. Meacham proceeded to inform the Pastor that the “central message of the New Testament” is “forgiveness” and “putting yourself in another’s place.” Having said that, Mika said they did not need to hear from the Pastor and told him goodbye – without giving him the chance to say a word.

I don’t agree with what the Pastor planned to do, but what they did here was rude. It was also dishonest. He clearly had been told they wanted to have him on the show, which implies an interview. To trot him out there and then treat him that way was inexcusable, and you can be sure they would never do that to a Muslim cleric – no matter how extreme.

Jon Meacham is also wrong about the central message of the New Testament. The central message of the New Testament is the death, burial, and resurrection of Jesus Christ! It is the message of Jesus, who said of Himself – “I am the way, the truth, and the life. No one comes to the Father except by me.” That message is not politically correct because it is totally exclusive – you must come to Jesus – but at the same time totally inclusive – “Whosoever will may come.”
