Sen. John McCain Draws Parallel Between Sarah Palin and Ronald Reagan – Video 11/28/10
Here is video of Sen. John McCain on with CNN’s Candy Crowley today, where he was asked about Sarah Palin and her potential candidacy for President in 2012. McCain began praising Palin, and Crowley then asked him if she was not somewhat “divisive” as well. McCain then drew a parallel between Palin and Ronald Reagan, whom he remembered was accused by many of being “divisive.”
McCain is exactly right. Anyone old enough to remember Reagan before he was elected, and even during his Presidency, was vilified by the media as being too extreme and “divisive.” But eventually, his message won out, and his ability to govern has left a legacy of great accomplishment. McCain didn’t mention it, but Reagan was also accused of being a warmonger, and was laughed at by many who called him a buffoon. Many of the same attitudes toward Reagan are now being displayed toward Palin by the Left and by elitists.
In the end, Reagan proved by the strength of his ideals, and his ability to communicate that message, that he was anything but a buffoon. Time will tell if Palin is able to overcome the attacks she faces from her critics.
