Here is video of Republican Rep. Steve Buyer reading acting House Speaker (Dem Rep. Laura Richardson) the riot act over the power games she was playing by refusing to recognize him to speak even though there was no one else even there to object to him being recognized. As she continued to deny him the right to speak, Buyer even said to her, “This is why the American People have thrown you out of power.” Here is how it all went down:
CBS NEWS: . . . . Here’s what happened: Buyer this afternoon asked Democratic Rep. Laura Richardson of California, who is acting as speaker, to yield time for him to speak on a veterans bill. Richardson refused, prompting Buyer to ask sarcastically, “as a sitting member of the House, the speaker chooses not to recognize another sitting member, is that correct?”
Richardson responds that the decision on recognizing Buyer is up to the speaker – that is, her. An increasingly frustrated Buyer replies that she is choosing not to recognize a ranking Republican member dispute the fact that isn’t anyone on the floor to object to his request.
“This is why the American people have thrown you out of power,” he says to Richardson. He then begins walking around the chamber angrily, throwing down a folder and muttering that Democrats are wasting time despite the fact that there are many things to be done, including repeal of the health care reform bill.
When Buyer returns to the microphone, Richardson changes course, yielding Buyer one minute to speak. He responds sarcastically, “wow.”
“Was treating another member with dignity so hard, madam speaker? I don’t believe it was,” he says. . . . Read More
Here is video of former President Jimmy Carter giving his thoughts on a possible Sarah Palin candidacy in 2012. Carter said Palin is “one of the most dynamic and attractive speakers we’ve ever seen,” and described her as “very eloquent.” He believes Palin will be “quite formidable” within the GOP and could very well win the nomination. He did not say she could not win a General Election, but it was clear he is skeptical of her beyond getting the GOP Nomination.
Here is video of former UN Ambassador John Bolton talking today about the huge dump of documents put out by WikiLeaks yesterday. Bolton called the release of the documents “an outrage,” and said it is going to cause great damage diplomatically for the United States.
Bolton called WikiLeaks “an anti-American organization,” and believes any American involved in leaking this information “should be charged with treason.”
Here is video from the deck of the U.S. supercarrier – the USS George Washington – of fighter jets taking off and landing during joint exercises with South Korea in a show of force. The exercises have been condemned by North Korea, who launched an artillery attack against South Korea’s Yeonpyeong Island last week killing four people.
Here is video of elitist historian Edmund Morris going off on CBS News’ Bob Schieffer for asking what Teddy Roosevelt might think about today’s political scene. Morris, a Brit who has become an American citizen, pointedly told Schieffer that was a “bullsh*t question,” and then proceeded to trash Americans. Morris described Americans:
“I see an insular people who are insensitive to foreign sensibilities, who are lazy, obese, complacent and increasingly perplexed as to why we are losing our place in the world to people who are more dynamic than us and more disciplined.”
Don’t you just love Americans who are proud of their country? I guess he didn’t get the memo from Michelle that it’s OK to be proud of America now. Keep in mind that Morris wrote a book on Ronald Reagan that was described this way by one reviewer:
. . . . . After fourteen years of research, Morris’s Dutch: A Memoir of Ronald Reagan, finally arrived, and it turned out not to be a biography or even history. Morris has instead produced a fiction in which he is the main character and his life is interspersed with impressions and memories of Ronald Reagan.
The book was released with much fanfare and amidst a din of controversy. Very few favorable reviews appeared. Historian Douglas Brinkley said flatly the work is not a work of non-fiction. George Will described the book as a dishonorable work. Peggy Noonan described the book as a mere entertainment and bad entertainment at that. Charles Krauthammer argued that Morris’s book does Reagan a grave injustice. The work never made it to the top of best-seller lists and began slipping down the lists one week after release. One suspects that Random House won’t be advancing Morris $3 million again any time soon. . . . . . Read More
Following Morris’ prescription of being concerned about “foreign sensibilities” will not restore America’s place in the world. Standing firm on an agenda of freedom and liberty will, and those nations that are offended by that agenda are not the constituency America should be trying to please.
The hundreds of thousands of documents dumped by WikiLeaks yesterday contain a great many revelations about how U.S. diplomats and sources throughout the world feel about numerous world leaders and dicey diplomatic situations. MSNBC Open Channel (thanks to Gateway Pundit for the heads up) is tracking key disclosures from the document dump. Below are links to some of the highlights:
The New York Times is reporting that documents released in the latest Wikileaks dump of classified information reveal that Iran obtained missiles from North Korea that are capable of reaching Western European countries:
NEW YORK TIMES: . . . . .Iran obtained 19 of the missiles from North Korea, according to a cable dated Feb. 24 of this year. The cable is a detailed, highly classified account of a meeting between top Russian officials and an American delegation led by Vann H. Van Diepen, an official with the State Department’s nonproliferation division who, as a national intelligence officer several years ago, played a crucial role in the 2007 assessment of Iran’s nuclear capacity.
The missiles could for the first time give Iran the capacity to strike at capitals in Western Europe or easily reach Moscow, and American officials warned that their advanced propulsion could speed Iran’s development of intercontinental ballistic missiles. . . . . Read More
This is what has been happening on President Obama’s watch, all the while he has been convinced that he can reason with the despotic regimes in Iran, North Korea and other places. Iran has only seen Obama’s overtures as an opportunity to obtain the weapons they so desperately desire.
