MSNBC’s Chris Matthews Disbelieving that Ronald Reagan Ranked as Greatest President in New Gallup Poll – Video 2/21/11

Here is video of a disbelieving Chris Matthews at the result of a new Gallup Poll on which President Americans believe is the best ever. Matthews can barely bring himself to even utter the name of the top President: Ronald Reagan.

Matthews dismisses the result as if it is impossible to believe Ronald Reagan could be ranked as the top President, saying this is from “people’s rankings,” and not from “historians.”

It is hard to determine a “greatest” President since they all served at different points in history, and faced differing circumstances. But by any fair measure, Ronald Reagan deserves to be near the top. In his eight years as President, on the domestic front, he dramatically turned around a truly disastrous economy inherited from Jimmy Carter. He revived the spirit and confidence of the American People. On the Foreign Policy front, Reagan pursued policies that drove the Soviet Union into the abyss, doing it despite being opposed every step of the way by the liberal media and the Democrats. They said he was a “warmonger,” and that his confrontational approach to the Soviet Union would get us into a war. Instead, his approach won the Cold War, and he did so without it resulting in a shooting war.

Certainly, George Washington and Abraham Lincoln will always deserve to be at or near the top of such a list. But few Presidents will ever be able to accomplish the things Ronald Reagan did during an eight-year Presidency. He richly deserves the honor accorded him by the Americans surveyed by Gallup.

NOTE: If there is one to argue with in this list, it is Bill Clinton at #3!!!!!
