A new Rasmussen Poll in Iowa shows GOP Rep. Michele Bachmann holding a slim one-point lead of Gov. Mitt Romney. Bachmann has campaigned hard in Iowa, while Romney has done very little there so far. Bachmann leads Romney 22%-21%.
GOP Rep. Ron Paul is now third with 16%, followed by Texas Gov. Rick Perry at 12%. Perry is expected to make it clear he will run for President this coming Saturday in a South Carolina speech. A more formal announcement is expected in Texas in the next week or so.
Gov. Tim Pawlenty is in double-digits at 11%. But Iowa is virtually a must-win state for him. Pawlenty is from neighboring Minnesota – like Bachmann – and has camped out in Iowa for months.
Herman Cain’s showing of 4% support is a dismal showing for him. Cain seems to be losing a lot of steam, both nationally, and in Iowa in recent polls.
