Gov. Rick Perry in South Carolina: Obama’s 2 1/2 Year Record as President is an “Economic Disaster” – Complete Video 8/19/11

Here is video of Gov. Rick Perry speaking in Columbia, South Carolina today as he began a campaign swing through the state.

In his remarks, Perry focused in on President Barack Obama’s record of failure when it comes to Jobs. He called Obama’s 2 1/2 years as President an “economic disaster.”

He framed the 2012 Election: “The central issue of the election is gonna be an administration that believes Washington must be our caretaker, and the people who want Washington to only care for their Constitutional responsibility.”

Perry mocked the Obama Administration’s recent claim that “Food Stamps” are “economic stimulus.” He said Food Stamps are a “symptom of the problem,” not a solution. “Most Americans do not yearn to be dependent on government subsidies, they want economic freedom –economic freedom to have a job, to work, to take care of their family. That’s what American’s yearn for.”

Perry told the crowd, “We need to get government out of the way and let the private sector do what the private sector does best, which is create jobs, which in turn creates wealth.”

He closed by asking listeners to join him in restoring the American Dream:

“You know we can’t tax and spend our way to prosperity, but we can grow our way out of it with lower taxes and less spending, and lighter regulation. The time to back our country is now. I ask you to join us in this campaign, that you be part of a great effort to change the direction of America, return the power to the people. Restoring the American Dream begins now, right here in Columbia.”
