Sen. Jim DeMint Talks about His Presidential Forum Today; Says “It Doesn’t Appear” Sarah Palin Will Run for President – Video 9/5/11
Here is video of Sen. Jim DeMint on CBS News this morning where he talked about the GOP Presidential Candidate Forum he is hosting today in South Carolina.
DeMint said all the major candidates will participate this afternoon. Each candidate will have over 20 minutes uninterrupted alone on the stage to “define themselves” and explain why they should be the nominee to take on Barack Obama in 2012.
When asked about Sarah Palin, DeMint said “it doesn’t appear” she is going to run for President in 2012.
On criticism from Rick Santorum about not being invited to the forum, while Rudy Giuliani was invited, DeMint explained that he and the sponsors decided several weeks ago to invite everyone who was averaging 5% in the polls at the time. Santorum “did not make that cut,” while Giuliani did, although Giuliani and Palin won’t participate.
The forum is scheduled for today in South Carolina from 3:00-5:00 PM ET, and will be televised on CNN. Six candidates will take part: Mitt Romney, Rick Perry, Michele Bachmann, Herman Cain, Newt Gingrich, and Ron Paul.
UPDATE 10:30 AM ET: Texas Gov. Rick Perry just announced he will skip the DeMint Forum to return to Texas due to the wildfires raging across the state.
