The Rick Perry Campaign is firing back at Ron Paul’s attack ad released today – by posting a letter written by Paul in 1987 in which Paul resigns as a member of the Republican Party and bashes Ronald Reagan as a failure.

Paul’s new ad would make you think he was the last man standing up for Ronald Reagan. Paul told Meet the Press’s Tim Russert in 2007 that yes, Reagan was a “failure,” among many other things.

And Paul ran as the Libertarian Candidate against VP George H.W. Bush in 1988 !!! By the way, the Sen Al Gore of 1988 was very different politically from the Al Gore that eventually emerged in the late 90s and more so during the Bush 43 administration.

In ’88 Gore was pro life, pro NRA, pro SDI, staunch anti-communist…a Southern Democrat, Boll-weevil type, clearly to the right of the eventual nominee, Dukakis, a pre-cursor to Clinton and the DLC wing of the party in ’92.

    Perfectly said, Carlos.

I’m officially very impressed by the Perry camp, they seem to be on the ball, answering very charge very quickly and in an in-your-face approach.

I’m getting more and more comfortable voting for him

Now that’s just too funny.  Paul moves out of the Republican party because he anticipates the big government borrow, tax and spend bunch is taking over.  Prophetic given the “read my lips, no new taxes” pledge made by G H W Bush’s broken pledge.  At the same time, Perry who is supporting Democrats version of big government is beginning to be attracted to the Republican party because it’s become more LIKE the Democrat party he was a part of.

Right.  Paul opposing Bush was true to his being a conservative. That shows good sense.  Bush wasn’t a conservative and massively raised taxes to accommodate the Democrats.
