Ron Paul Issues Ad Touting His Support for Ronald Reagan and Attacking Rick Perry; No Mention He Called Reagan a “Failure” in 2007 Interview with Tim Russert – Videos

Here is a new ad attacking Texas Gov. Rick Perry as “Al Gore’s cheerleader” put out by the Ron Paul Campaign. The ad touts Paul as “the one” who stood by Ronald Reagan – pointing out that Paul endorsed Reagan for President in 1980. It attacks Perry for supporting Gore in 1988, when Perry was still a Democrat. Perry switched parties a year later.

Of course, the ad does not mention that in 1988, Gore was considered a very conservative Democrat. He was even pro-Life at the time. It also does not mention that Ron Paul broke with Reagan in 1987 over the Budget, and even abandoned being a Republican to run for President as a Libertarian in 1988.

In the video below (cued for you), Ron Paul actually called Reagan “a failure,” when he was called out by Tim Russert for using the same tactic in 2007 – touting his association with Reagan in campaign literature:

Russert went on to point out to Paul that he resigned from the GOP in 1987, called President George H.W. Bush “a bum,” and that he did not vote for President George W. Bush in 2000, or 2004.

NOTE: This whole interview is incredibly revealing about the thinking of Ron Paul. He criticizes Abraham Lincoln for the Civil War over slavery among many other things.

Reagan raised the deficit by the largest %
Lincoln was a big supporter of slavery.

The point is that if Ron Paul thinks Reagan was a failure, he should not be campaigning as if he was Reagan’s biggest supporter and friend. That’s what the new ad implies.
