Sen. Rand Paul: Rick Perry and Ron Paul had a “Friendly Exchange,” NO Harsh Words “At All” During Break at Debate – Video 9/8/11 UPDATED: Ron Paul Explains there were “No Cross Words” – Video 9/8/11

UPDATED 9/9/11, 7:48 AM ET: Here we’ve added Ron Paul himself explaining there were no “cross words” between himself and Gov. Perry during a break in the GOP Presidential Debate Wednesday night (H/T Mediaite). Good for Rep. Paul for putting this whole thing to rest. It does show how quickly a photo can cause a political firestorm these days.

Here is video of Sen. Rand Paul telling Sean Hannity tonight that NO “harsh words” were exchanged between his Dad – Rep. Ron Paul – and Texas Gov. Rick Perry during a break in the GOP Presidential Debate last night at the Reagan Library. The internet has been abuzz all day with word that Rick Perry had “gotten physical” with Paul, or tried to intimidate him. Hannity asked Rand Paul about it, and he said the photos floating around the internet and posted on many sites – including the Drudge Report – look very “animated” but that his Dad’s staff had told him there were no harsh words, and instead they had had a “friendly exchange.”

Here’s one of the photos that have been floating around today (AP Photo):

Something tells me there will be some of Ron Paul’s supporters who won’t believe even Rand Paul.

Just looking at this, it doesn’t look hostile. It does look animated, and I think we could all agree Perry is more animated. He’s touching Pauls arm, but not gripping, and he’s making a point (upraised finger). He’s not leaning into Paul, grasping or pulling him.
Paul is showing no defensiveness, no wariness, his hands are relaxed and so is his stance and expression.
I suppose if you need to make an issue, any touch is physical.

Whats with the snide dig at the end, Lighthouse?  Somewhat uncalled for.

It probably was, because it’s not right to paint everyone with a broad brush. I had read yesterday a number of Paul folks saying Perry should be charged with “assault” or “battery” because of this. So, while it was unnecessary, I do believe it to be true.

These are two very intense men in a very intense setting, and I think everyone will admit that folks are feeling defensive of their candidates. This is just another instance of the media blowing things way out of proportion. Everyone can now settle down and get back to the important business.

    Exactly right, M92.

Good for Dr. Paul, Ron, for straightening this out, I didn’t realize he has such a great sense of humor. I agree with him on so much when it comes to fiscal, limited govt issues, I just wish he was more like his son when he came to defense issues. But again good for Dr. Ron for straightening this out, and he really has a great sense of humor.
