Rick Perry Stands by Social Security Statements: “My God, Chris Matthews Even Said it was a ‘Ponzi Scheme’” – Video 9/9/11

In California yesterday, here is video of Texas Gov. Rick Perry answering questions from the media ad lib style as he prepared to leave for an event. Perry was asked by media his reaction to President Obama’s “Jobs Speech.” Perry said if Obama had been serious about giving a “Jobs Speech,” he could have simply said to the American people, “I’ve been listening to you” – and then announced he would push for repeal of ObamaCare – which Perry called a “job-killer.”

He was also asked if he stood by his characterization of Social Security for younger workers as a “Ponzi Scheme,” in light of Mitt Romney’s attacks against him. Perry responded:

“Sure, as a matter of fact, Rush Limbaugh said that Social Security was a ‘Ponzi Scheme.’ And, my God, Chris Matthews even said it was a ‘Ponzi Scheme’ yesterday. So, I stand by my statement that Social Security, for those of us approaching the age to get it – those that may be on Social Security – you don’t have anything to worry about. It will be there for you. But why are we trying to kid our kids, and say, ‘Keep paying into this thing – it’s going to work out alright for you.’ It’s not. It’s broken, it’s not going to be there for them. Let’s be adults here. Quit trying to be political games-men. Be leaders. Leaders stand up and say, ‘We’ve got a broken system. Here’s how we fix it.”
