Rick Perry Interviewed by Fox News’ Carl Cameron; Reacts to Obama Calling the American People “Soft” – Video 9/30/11

Here is video of Fox News’ Carl Cameron interviewing Texas Gov. Rick Perry in New Hampshire.

Cameron begins with a report on the state of the Presidential Campaign today, and then interviewed Perry. Cameron went right at Perry on why so many conservatives are upset with him about his support for in-state tuition for the children of illegal aliens in Texas. Perry defended his record on illegal immigration, and said his actions were in line with the will of the state legislature and the people of Texas. He pledged to secure the border, something President Obama has refused to do.

Perry reacted to Obama calling the American people “soft.” Perry said the American people are “plenty tough.” But we have a “soft President.”

Rick Perry continues to fail to explain the whole in-state tuition issue well. The best he can do is to make clear that the Texas DREAM Act had nothing to do with amnesty. It only deals with giving the children of illegals access to in-state tutition, but it is not connected to a path to citizenship like the proposed Federal DREAM Act is. That would still not deal with the basic problem of his position, but it would make an important distinction.

    A couple of points:

Pres. Vicente Fox was basically the first right of center candidate, PAN, elected in Mexico, after 70 plus years of the PRI Party iron rule (left of center/nationalist populists)…he was as pro-US, as you are going to get south of the border. (owner of Coca Cola rights in Mexico)

Romney: “spent my life NOT in politics” ??? Really, Willard?

On illegals, Slick Mitt can’t even control the illegals who were cutting his grass on his mansion in Massachusetts for YEARS !!!

Having said that, I agree, Gov. Perry needs to make the distinctions greater, but I think he is playing to a general, potential national electorate, with that nuanced view. (triangulating, if you will)

BTW, aren’t conservatives, constitutionalists and/or libertarians, in favor of state’s rights ???

I would vote against that type of measure in Florida, my home state, but I am not going to dictate to other governors/state legislatures what they can and can out do, within the purview of their state powers.

Lastly, parse his answers about Pres. Obama and foreign policy…again, he is flexing it, because let’s face it, though I disagree with the broader strokes of the Obama administration, they did take out UBL and Al Awlaki. (of course, with W era tactics, basically)…praising Obama a tad, is again, playing to a larger audience, whom at the end of the day are going to vote pocketbook issues, when all is said and done, by in large.
