Gov. Mitt Romney has regained the lead from Rick Perry in the 2012 GOP Presidential Nomination Polling Average. Perry has fallen dramatically in the last couple of weeks. He is still in second place on the strength of his polls prior to the last GOP debate. As those polls roll off the 21-day polling average, his number will drop further. Herman Cain is rising, and his polls since the last GOP Debate have been very strong, meaning his average will go up in the weeks ahead as his weaker polls drop off the average.

At this point, Mitt Romney and Herman Cain are clearly the top two candidates, with Rick Perry a weak third. While Newt Gingrich has made some gains in recent weeks, he is still well back of the leaders. Michele Bachmann’s campaign is now on life-support, along with the rest of the pack. Ron Paul maintains his strong following of 6%-8% in the polls no matter what.
