Report: Japan Turned Down Offer to have President Obama Apologize for the Atomic Bombing that Ended World War II – Video 10/12/11

Here is video of Fox News’ Bret Baier last night with his “Political Grapevine” segment which began with news that a “November 2009 document” leaked by Wikileaks reveals that President Obama was prepared to go to Hiroshima, Japan and apologize “for the U.S. Atomic bombing during World War II.” Japan rejected the idea as a “non-starter,” obviously having more sense than our own President and his administration. The Obama Administration denies that any such apology was ever planned.

But why would the U.S. Ambassador write in a cable that the Japanese had rejected the idea as a “non-starter” if it had not been proposed to them? And how could that be proposed to them without the knowledge of the President who was going to apologize? It is not difficult to believe that Obama would make such an apology, since he has apologized for the United States in the past.

The Atomic bombings of Japan at Hiroshima and Nagasaki saved lives. It saved hundreds of thousands of American lives, which was the first duty and responsibility of President Harry Truman. The United States was gearing up for an invasion of the Japanese home islands at the time. A study prepared for Secretary of War Henry Stimson believed the cost of invading Japan to end the war would have resulted in 400,000-800,000 American dead, and between 5-10 million Japanese deaths. Thus, as terrible as the bombings were, it brought the war to a rapid end and saved lives on both sides.

The United States has nothing to apologize for in bringing World War II to a rapid conclusion. We apparently don’t have a President who understands that.

NOTE: Since the Administration is denying this report, an enterprising reporter should ask Obama at the next opportunity if he thinks the United States has anything to apologize for in the Atomic bombing of Japan.
