Here is video of Anita Perry – wife of Texas Gov. Rick Perry – speaking in South Carolina, and clearly revealing what an emotional toll the past month has taken on her and her husband.
Mrs. Perry told the crowd that it has been a “rough month.” At around the 8:15 mark of the video, she went on to say:
We are being brutalized by our opponents, and our own party. So much of that is, I think they look at him, because of his faith. He is the only true conservative – well, there are some true conservatives. And they’re there for good reasons. And they may feel like God called them too. But I truly feel like we are here for that purpose.”
Perry did come under withering attack, but not because of his faith. There are other very strong Christians in the GOP Field. Perry became the focus of attack because he took votes away from the other conservative candidates and surged to the top of the polls. Bachmann and Santorum know they can’t get votes from Romney, but they believed they could get votes from Perry. So, they attacked. It succeeded in knocking Perry down – along with his poor debate performances – but his votes didn’t go to them. They have gone to Herman Cain – who is also a very strong Christian.
