Herman Cain: Karl Rove Is “Deliberately Trying to Damage Me” to Help Romney – Report 10/24/11


Herman Cain accuses Karl Rove of deliberately trying to damage his campaign in order to help Mitt Romney:

(Washington Examiner) – Republican presidential candidate Herman Cain says GOP strategist and former top Bush aide Karl Rove is deliberately trying to talk down Cain’s campaign in order to benefit rival candidate Mitt Romney.

“It’s a good thing the voters are not looking at Karl Rove’s little whiteboard,” Cain said in a phone conversation from a stop in Chicago Monday afternoon. “I believe it is a deliberate attempt to damage me because I am not, quote unquote, the establishment choice. But why not go with the choice that the people seem to like?”

Cain accused Rove of bias in favor of candidates with big organizations, lots of money, and prior experience in political office — all things Cain doesn’t have. “What has Karl Rove done?” Cain continued. “If I become the nominee, he has given Democrats talking points for a commercial to attack me. It makes no sense unless it’s a deliberate attempt on his part to try to push me down so that the candidate he wants rises to the top.”

    Karl Rove is a jack-hole.  I also believe there is something about these GOP talking heads that wants to keep THEIR party affiliation in power. I’m sure they believe all the same “small government, limited governement, fiscal discipline, balanced budget” stuff we all want but they want to make sure THEY are in control of everything.

    I’ve seen the Rove interview and it seemed balanced.  Rove made some points about Cain’s organization and he made points about other people too.  On Greta, Rove was asked to provide advice to all candidates and, again, he made some good points.  Now, personally, I do think that Rove is rooting for Romney and so is Brit Hume and, no doubt, others in the media.  But I don’t see it interfering with their journalism.  I assume Rove is rooting for Romney because Romney is GOP establishment and Rove believes that the establishment — as opposed to strictly conservative or Tea Party — has a good chance of beating Obama.  Romney is not perfectly or purely conservative but the thinking is that he is better than another four years of Obama.
