Rick Santorum Releases New Ad Attacking “Herman Cain’s Newly Discovered Pro-Choice Position on Abortion” – Video 10/27/11

Here is video of a new Rick Santorum ad that focuses entirely on attacking Herman Cain, primarily for his recent controversial comments on abortion. The ad plays clips of Cain stating an essentially pro-choice position on what should happen in the case of rape if there is a pregnancy. Cain told both John Stossel and Piers Morgan that it is a decision the woman or that family should make – not someone in the Government.

The ad plays a plethora of quotes from Pro-Life advocates who called Cain’s statements essentially a pro-choice stance. But it does not point out that Cain has both before and after the comments said he is “100% Pro-Life from conception – no exceptions.” It also does not mention that the National Right to Life Committee has vouched for Cain as “Pro-Life” in the wake of the controversy.

Santorum’s ad never shows nor mentions himself, but exclusively seeks to shake the confidence of conservative voters in Cain. While it may succeed in doing that, it does not necessarily mean those voters will move from Cain to Santorum. One of Santorum’s problems is that people just like Herman Cain, and it is difficult to convince conservatives that Cain is not conservative. It will be interesting to see if this web ad has much impact, and if Santorum moves up if Cain moves down.
