Herman Cain Lectured by CBS News’ Bob Schieffer over his “Smoking Ad” – Video 10/30/11
Here is video of Herman Cain enduring a lecture from CBS News’ Bob Schieffer about his controversial “smoking ad,” that featured Cain’s Cheif of Staff – Mark Block – smoking a cigarette at the end of the ad.
Schieffer ceased to be a journalist and became lecturer-in-chief in scolding Cain for the ad, which he said “encourages smoking.” Cain said that was not the intent of the ad, but rather it was intended to emphasize the unconventional nature of his campaign. He also said he wants to “let people be who they are.” But Schieffer just went on and on, even telling Cain he does not find the ad “funny.”
Schieffer essentially ordered Cain to tell viewers that they should not smoke, and that smoking is not “cool.” Cain complied, repeating what Schieffer said, and urging people not to smoke.
I think the ad was goofy, but I don’t think Bob Schieffer has any place telling Herman Cain or any Presidential Candidate what he can and cannot do or say. Schieffer was way out of line here.
