Herman Cain on the Military Threat Posed by China: “They’re Trying to Develop Nuclear Capability” – Video 10/31/11 UPDATE – Cain Wrote in 2005 About China’s Nuclear Threat
When it rains, it pours.
Here is video of Herman Cain in an interview with Judy Woodruff of PBS yesterday (Oct. 31). Late in the interview, where it’s queued up for you, Cain is asked about the military threat posed by China. He said the U.S. needs to “outgrow China” economically, and then said China is “trying to develop nuclear capability.” Of course China has been a nuclear power for decades. It is possible he meant that China is trying to develop Nuclear Aircraft Carriers – but, once again, what he says is not real clear.
UPDATE: Thanks to Jim for sending a 2005 quote from an article by Herman Cain that shows he knew then that China had Nuclear Capability. Here’s the quote:
“The U.S. should be less concerned about China’s economic potential than by the military threat it poses. Three Chinese spies were recently indicted in the U.S. for conspiring to steal numerous naval warship technologies. This summer China and Russia participated in a week-long joint military exercise. China’s build up of nuclear, military and space technologies to rival the U.S., and its saber-rattling over Taiwan’s independence, signals a commitment to more red, not green.”
This would indicate what Cain was saying in the interview was related to China trying to develop Nuclear Aircraft Carriers to rival the U.S. – even if that was not clear.
