Such good memories!

The hippies did win the Cultural Revolution back in the 60s
and that is why they are still around. But they were absorbed by greater
American culture and, ironically, the anti materialism that they espoused was
never accepted — in fact, many went on to become yuppies in the 80s. Even
during the 60s, money played a big part — e.g., Woodstock was set up to create a profit for
the promoter.  Today, the leftist hippies have their cell phones, iPods,
blackberries as totems of materialism and technology.  They feel these
items are important enough to have but they want to tear down the
capitalism that created them.  I’m always amazed by the hypocrisy of the
left.  Maybe the left feels that life at its deepest level is
contradictory and, therefore, no need to correct hypocrisy.  Thoughtless,
easy going hypocrisy reigns supreme; where your conscience is never disturbed
and you get to have your cake and eat it too.
