Newt Gingrich Decides to Take the Weekend Off – Final Pre-Holiday Weekend before Iowa Vote – 12/17/11

You have to wonder about what Newt Gingrich is thinking on this. He is taking the weekend off from campaigning, other than a conference call with reporters. The final weekend before the Christmas and New Year’s Holidays. In other words, the final weekend for serious campaigning before voting in the Iowa Caucuses January 3, 2012. I wonder who suggested, “Hey guys. Let’s just take the weekend off?!”

POLITICO: Newt Gingrich, after raising eyebrows for taking a full weekend off the Iowa campaign trail tomorrow and Sunday as the campaign enters the final push, has just scheduled a conference call with reporters for tomorrow.

The topic is continuing remarks he made during the final pre-Iowa GOP debate about the judiciary. This will let Gingrich get some free media attention that relates to his campaign – but almost every story is likely to note that he’s not in Iowa. . . .
