Newt Gingrich Challenges Mitt Romney to One-on-One Iowa Debate Next Week ahead of Iowa Caucuses

Newt Gingrich has challenged Mitt Romney to a one-on-one debate in Iowa ahead of the Iowa Caucuses. Gingrich made the challenge in response to a devastating wave of negative ads against him by Romney surrogates through Super PAC groups. Romney has maintained he has no connection to the groups, and that he cannot do anything about the ads one way or the other.

THE HILL: Newt Gingrich on Wednesday challenged Mitt Romney to a one-on-one debate.

It was a part of his strategy to battle back against attack ads aired by a political action committee with ties to Romney.

The former speaker, during a campaign stop in New Hampshire, also said that he could “take the heat plenty well.”

Romney suggested earlier in the day that his tough ads are simply preparing Gingrich for what would be a tough battle with President Obama.

“This is politics, and if you can’t stand the heat in this little kitchen, wait until the Obama hell’s kitchen turns up the heat,” Romney said Wednesday morning on Fox News.

That prompted Gingrich’s debate challenge.

“Look, I’ll tell you what. If he wants to test the heat, I’ll meet him anywhere in Iowa next week one on one, 90 minutes, no moderator,” Gingrich said. . . . Read More
