Michele Bachmann Announces, “I am Looking Forward to being America’s Next Margaret Thatcher” – Video 12/21/11
PART 1
PART 2
Here is video of Michele Bachmann being interviewed by Monica Crowley, who was standing in for Sean Hannity last night.
Bachmann responded to reports that an evangelical leader in Iowa called for her to drop out of the Presidential race and support Rick Santorum. Bachmann dismissed such a call, saying she has very strong support among evangelicals, and pointing out she has “never been below Rick Santorum in the polls.” She essentially was saying, “Why would I drop out?” Bachmann said she believes people “are going to be very surprised” by her finish in Iowa.
Bachmann is in the midst of a 99-county tour of Iowa, which she said is something only she is doing. That may be true of a “tour,” but Rick Santorum has already visited every county in Iowa. Bachmann said repeatedly she is the “most electable” conservative candidate in the GOP race, the one who can go “toe-to-toe” with Barack Obama and win.
Toward the end of the interview, Bachmann actually compared herself to “Margaret Thatcher”:
“I think we need an American Margaret Thatcher – an American ‘Iron Lady,’ and I am presenting myself as that candidate. . . and I am looking forward to being America’s next, hopefully, Margaret Thatcher.”
“America” has never had a Margaret Thatcher. It seems perilous and presumptuous, to me, to be declaring yourself to be “Margaret Thatcher.” Those kinds of statements are better left to others to say about you.
