Newt Gingrich Goes After Ron Paul Foreign Policy: “I Do Not Agree with Him that it is OK if Israel Disappears” – Video 12/23/11
Wow. Here is video of Newt Gingrich at a Town Hall Meeting in South Carolina where he blasted Ron Paul’s Foreign Policy positions.
“The only person I know who is for a weaker military than Barack Obama is Ron Paul. And we ought to honest about this: His positions are fundamentally wrong on National Security. I do not agree with him that America is at fault for 9/11. I do not agree with him that we can ignore an Iranian Nuclear Weapon. And I do not agree with him that it is OK if Israel disappears. I think that it is important to understand that America has an important role in the world. The world is a better place because since 1941 we have been a stabilizing force. . . . If the United States pulls out and we go isolationist, the world is going to become more dangerous overnight.”
I’d say the gloves are off. I don’t know that it’s fair to say Paul does not care if Israel “disappears.” But he has made clear they are on their own. Ron Paul and Mitt Romney have been hammering Gingrich mercilessly in Iowa with ads. It appears Gingrich is ready to fight back, and he is zeroing in on the place where Ron Paul is most vulnerable. He’ll never convince the committed Paul supporters to abandon him, but he is clearly making a play for the drifting voters who are unsure of who to support. If he can sufficiently make them afraid of Ron Paul’s Foreign Policy, he might be able to keep Paul’s numbers low enough to beat him. We’ll see.
