CNN Interviews GOP Women from Clinton County, Iowa to Explain Votes that Put Mitt Romney over the top in the Iowa Caucuses – Video 1/4/12

PART 1

PART 2

The incredibly close GOP Iowa Caucuses came down to votes from one precinct in Clinton County, Iowa last night. The vote totals at the time had Rick Santorum leading Mitt Romney by four votes. Over on Fox News, Karl Rove announced that an RNC source told him Romney won that last precinct and would be the victor in Iowa by the narrowest of margins.

The video above is from CNN, who tracked down the Republican County officials who had knowledge of the vote totals from that last precinct that kept everyone up until 2:00 AM to see who actually won. Two women were interviewed by CNN, explaining that they had actually called the totals in hours earlier, but somehow they did not get tabulated by the state officials. The two were delightful, reminding us all of the many poll workers around the country who serve so faithfully in elections year after year. They explained that Romney had won their precinct by 18 votes over Santorum. That appeared to give Romney a 14 vote victory, but in the end, the official final totals gave him an 8 vote win.
