New Mitt Romney Ad: Newt Gingrich had to “Resign in Disgrace” from Congress; “If Newt Wins, this Guy (Obama) Would be Very Happy” – Video 1/23/12

It’s survival time for the Romney Campaign.

Here is a new Mitt Romney ad that goes for the jugular on Newt Gingrich. Romney is trying to destroy Gingrich before it’s too late. This ad slams Gingrich for “cashing in” by advising Freddie Mac to the tune of $1.6 million while Florida families lost their homes in the mortgage/housing crisis. He also says Gingrich had to resign from Congress in “disgrace” and ends with a smiling Barack Obama as the narration says: “If Newt wins, this guy would be very happy.”

I think Barack will have a field day with this fat, old, puffy,
dishonest blowhard.  Not every American is so moved by their emotions or
so adamant on removing Barack… some actually will look at Newt’s
record and say, “My God, this guy is a charlatan!  He has no shame or
conviction and is just as much a Democrat as Pelosi.  There is no core
to this man judging by his record.  He’s not Ronald Reagen but F T
Barnum with his high flying circus come to town.  He’ll take America up
in the air, fleece her and drop her without a net.  He got fined and run
out of town before as House Speaker.  And now he’s back with a new
disguise.  Some people are always fooled by the carny men or as he says,
‘There’s a sucker born every minute.”  I hope this opportunistic
blowhard doesn’t fool too many people with his newest confidence trick.
And judging by his sexual indiscretions and peccadilloes keep your women
    locked up too.”

I can’t tell how you feel about Newt, Blind Eye?!

I wouldn’t underestimate Newt Gingrich. Americans love a fighter, and people are so sick of Barack Obama they want someone who will really go after him. The prospect of Gingrich debating Obama is driving a lot of his support. Gingrich is tapping into that frustration and anger like no other candidate is right now. He is communicating conservatism in a very strong way. You can argue whether or not he has the consistent conservative record to match his words, but he is communicating conservatism better than the other candidates so far.

I agree Brian, Newt can tap into the frustration but I don’t think debates necessarily win an election.  Newt is selling himself as a Reagan Republican going against Carter and Mitt is the more Rockefeller Republican.  But all the Republican candidates are saying the same things: improve the economy, cut big government, cut the spending, cut the debt, etc., so it almost comes down to personality.  With Newt, I think he is too unstable and undisciplined (nice way to say dishonest) and his unlike-ability nationally is 59%.  Newt will say Ronald won and he can too, but I seriously doubt that because society is quite different today than the 1980s.  And if the economy improves, the Democrats will have a field day highlighting Newt’s record and character traits. Romney is more likable and experienced as a business man who understands the economy.  He doesn’t have the insane baggage Newt has and I think he can be passionate too. This is a good test for Romney.  One correction: P T Barnum.
