Fred Thompson Skewers Obama’s Touting of Reduced Oil Imports: “That’s Like Congratulating a Sick Person for Losing Weight” – Video 1/29/12

This is Fred Thompson at his best. In this clip from his appearance with John McCain on “Meet the Press” today, Thompson sums up what many conservatives see as the showdown between Mitt Romney and Newt Gingrich. Thompson said Republicans need to nominate someone who can go toe-to-toe with Barack Obama on the issues and articulate the “philosophical underpinnings” of the positions. He said we “don’t need a bean-counter” – even if he’s been a successful one. Instead, Thompson argued we need a President with big solutions who will “shake things up” in Washington.

Fred got off a good line about Obama’s trumpeting a reduction in the amount of foreign oil being imported, which he quickly and accurately explained was because of Obama’s horrific economy – people just have not been driving as much. “That’s like congratulating a sick person for losing weight!”
