Romney has to Tell CNN’s Soledad O’Brien: “Finish the Sentence, Soledad” as She Tries to Misconstrue Comment about the “Very Poor” – Video 2/1/12

Here is video of Mitt Romney on CNN this morning where he said the focus of his campaign is on helping “middle-income Americans” who have really been left out and hurt by the Obama Economy. Romney made the statement “I’m not concerned about the very poor. We have a safety net there. If it needs repair, I’ll fix it.” He also said he’s not concerned about the “very rich,” but said his focus is helping middle-income Americans.

Predictably, CNN’s Soledad O’Brien seized on Romney’s comments and tried to make it look like Romney said he does not care about poor people. Romney calmly told her, “finish the sentence Soledad” – and he went on to remind her he said because they already have a “safety net” – which he said he would repair if it has holes in it.

But expect the Democrats to try and make much of this in the days ahead. I don’t think it will work, because the vast majority of Americans already know this is absolutely true. They go to the grocery store and struggle to purchase food and necessities and watch as those on welfare purchase things they don’t buy for themselves. Romney is hitting on something that will strike a chord with the vast majority of Americans. But the Democrats will try to use this to further paint Romney as the cold, evil rich guy.
