Krauthammer, Hayes Disagree on Importance of Donald Trump Endorsement of Mitt Romney; Krauthammer Says, “It Matters” – Video 2/2/12
Here is video of both Stephen Hayes and Charles Krauthammer reacting to the Donald Trump endorsement of Mitt Romney today.
Hayes was totally dismissive of it, saying it will mean virtually nothing to Romney. But Krauthammer said “it matters,” because it disrupts the narrative of “outsiders” endorsing Newt Gingrich – Cain, Perry, Palin (sort of). At the end, Hayes disagreed, shaking his head throughout Krauthammer’s remarks. He said, “Charles is very, very smart and he’s also very, very wrong.”
Actually, I think Krauthammer is right. This endorsement really matters because if Romney is the nominee, it takes Trump off the table as a third party candidate – which would destroy a Republican’s chances of defeating Obama (probably). It would particularly be devastating for Romney because so many conservatives don’t like him and if Trump were running, would give them someone viable to vote for. Trump has indicated if Romney does not win the nomination, he might still run as a third party candidate.
