Dick Morris Assesses, “What Happens if Rick Santorum Wins” the GOP Nomination? – Video 2/21/12

Here is video of Dick Morris giving his take on what happens if Sen. Rick Santorum winds up winning the GOP Presidential Nomination.

Morris said he really likes Santorum personally, pointing out that he is a very genuine, consistent, likable person. But, his worry with Santorum is his ability to win in states like Pennsylvania – his home state. Morris pointed out Santorum’s loss as an incumbent Senator in his 2006 re-election bid by 18 points. Morris did not say he doesn’t think Santorum can’t win, but that it is more of a risk than nominating Mitt Romney. With Romney, Morris seems to think it’s less of an electability risk, but you might not wind up with as committed a conservative as you will with Santorum. As he put it: “So, it’s kind of what’s more important to you – a pure candidate or someone who is more likely to win.”

One thing Morris said that is certainly the case: If Santorum is the nominee, the Obama Campaign will do all they can to make the election about social issues, believing they can demonize Santorum as an extremist. I’m not sure that would be a winning strategy for Obama, but they will certainly try it, to keep the focus off of his dismal economic record.

Personally, I would forget the purity and appeal to the middle (but not as Rush & Gingrich  think you can as a “true” conservative) to rid the country of Obama.  Mind you, the left will still be there strong as ever, influencing your kids, stirring up racial tension (e.g., La Razza), tearing away at the Bible and the Constitution, giving America a postmodern makeover in their own inimitable, spiteful way. Yes, the face of America will change, is slowly changing but at least the titular head of socialism will be gone.

Correction: titular black head of socialism.  I’m talking acme.

That’s the great question of this race, Blind Eye. Is the way to beat Obama to appeal to the mythical “middle” by running someone more like a Democrat, or by presenting a clear, unabashed conservative as an alternative path for the nation. Reagan won over the “middle” even though he was incredibly conservative. But Reagan had a charming personality that was hard to resist. We know the “run to the middle” did not work in 2008 with John McCain. I think our best chance lies in running an unabashed conservative.

Or maybe our best chance is to run a former Governor.  That’s who we’ve been successful with in the past.
