More than a “feel-good” story. A life lesson.

New York City Police Officer Larry DePrimo was photographed by a tourist helping a homeless man by providing him a pair of socks and boots. The officer had noticed the man had no socks or shoes, and had actually heard someone laughing at the man and making fun of him because he had no shoes. Officer DePrimo went to a shoe store and bought the man a pair of socks and boots and brought them to him. That’s when, unbeknownst to the officer, he was photographed while helping the man put the boots on. Officer DePrimo said the homeless man told him, “God bless you.”

Officer DePrimo let God use him to bless that man – and all of us with his act of kindness.

Here is video of Sen. John Cornyn today on Fox News where he said President Obama’s actions indicate he actually wants the United States to go off the “Fiscal Cliff.”

Cornyn was reacting to the laughable plan put forward by Obama through Treasury Secretary Tim Geithner yesterday – a plan that featured tax increases, more spending, and no real spending cuts! Senate Minority Leader Mitch McConnell is said to have laughed out loud in the meeting when he heard the proposal.

He was just elected to the U.S. Senate from Texas, but the name of Senator-elect Ted Cruz is already being bandied about as a possible 2016 GOP Presidential Candidate. Apparently, he gave a speech last night in Washington to the conservative American Principles Project Dinner that really impressed attendees. Cruz made the case that Republicans lost the 2012 Presidential Race because they did not effectively make the case for what he calls, “Opportunity Conservatism”:

POLITICO: Texas Sen.-elect Ted Cruz advised the Republican Party to rebrand itself under a banner of “Opportunity Conservatism” during a sweeping speech Thursday night that will only stoke speculation about a 2016 presidential run.

Speaking before the conservative American Principles Project dinner at a downtown Washington hotel, Cruz said the GOP’s thumping in the 2012 elections was more the result of poor messaging and communication than the wrong ideology. “Why did we lose? It wasn’t as the media would tell you: because the American people embraced big government, Barack Obama’s spending and debt and taxes. … That wasn’t what happened. I’m going to suggest to you a very simple reason why we lost the election: We didn’t win the argument,” Cruz said before pointedly lowering his voice. “We didn’t even make the argument.”

While the 41-year-old Cuban-American warned that Republicans need not abandon their principles in order to rebound electorally, he did suggest the party should retool its rhetoric on economic and cultural issues.

“We need to embrace what I call ‘Opportunity Conservatism.’ We need to conceptualize, we need to articulate conservative domestic policy with a laser focus on opportunity, on easing the means of ascent up the economic ladder,” he said.

While he conceded the party’s harsh tone on immigration was undoubtedly a factor, Cruz cited Mitt Romney’s infamous “47 percent” comment as the main reason the president performed so well with Hispanics.

“I think far more important was 47 percent. … Republicans nationally, the story we conveyed was that 47 percent are stuck in a static world. We don’t have to worry about you, what that clip famously said. I cannot think of an idea more antithetic to the American principle,” Cruz said. “We embraced in that comment, and in the narrative we made to this country, the Democrat notion that there is a fixed and static pie. … The rich are the rich, the poor are the poor, and all that matters is redistributing from one to the other. The essence of the conservative message should be we want a dynamic nation where anybody with nothing can achieve anything,” he added to cheers from the audience. “We did an incredibly poor job at articulating the message of opportunity.” . . . You know something has gone horribly wrong when even the Leftists in Europe are pointing to America’s President as a proof-text for why it is okay to “nationalize” industries. That’s what the French Industry Minister has done: “Barack Obama has nationalized.”

Here is a video report on the plan President Obama has put forward to Republicans as a proposal to deal with the “Fiscal Cliff.”

Obama had his Treasury Secretary – Tim Geithner – lay out the plan to Republicans, including Senate Minority Leader Mitch McConnell and House Speaker John Boehner. Unbelievably, not only is Obama not proposing any serious or specific spending cuts for what is clearly a spending problem, his proposal would raise taxes and INCREASE spending by $50 billion! Republicans say the spending increase being proposed by Obama is a “non-starter.” The annual budget deficit is over $1 Trillion A YEAR! Obama wants to increase taxes, which they say will increase revenue by $1.6 Trillion OVER TEN YEARS. Obviously, ten years will bring deficits of more than $10 Trillion. For all his talk about taxing the rich, it won’t even begin to touch the enormous deficit we are running. We have a spending problem – and Obama is not serious about tackling that problem.

Here is audio of Mark Levin tonight blasting the United Nations as being filled with “thugs, genocidal maniacs and other freaks” after the world body voted to recognize Palestine as an Observer State – even though the Palestinians still refuse to even recognize Israel’s right to exist. Levin said, “The U.N. is not our friend.”

Florida senator Marco Rubio has issued a press release opposing UN recognition of Palestine. He has also announced that he is co-sponsoring an amendment that would prohibit US taxpayer dollars from funding the U.N. if they proceed with recognizing Palestinine as a non-member state.

Here is the text of Rubio’s statement: “I oppose this unilateral move by the government of president Abbas and regret its reckless endorsement by the United Nations. True peace and international recognition of a Palestinian state can only be achieved through direct negotiations between Israelis and Palestinians. The Palestinian people would be much better served if the Palestinian Authority were to spend its energies in responding to several Israeli calls for direct negotiations. As the Senate debates the National Defense Authorization Act (NDAA), I am proud to be a co-sponsor of an amendment to prohibit U.S. taxpayer funding for the United Nations in the event the organization upgrades Palestine’s status from permanent observer ‘entity’ before a comprehensive peace agreement has been reached with Israel. The Senate should swiftly adopt it.”

A powerful statement today by Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu on the move by the Palestinians and their allies at the United Nations today to have Palestine recognized by the U.N. as an observer state. The resolution is expected to pass in the General Assembly. The United States has said it will oppose the move.

Netanyahu points out that Palestine should not be recognized as an official state until it officially recognizes Israel’s right to exist. Netanyahu bluntly issued a warning to the United Nations:

“As for the rights of the Jewish people in this land, I have a smiple message for those gathered in the General Assembly today. No decision by the U.N. can break the 4,000 year-old bond between the people of Israel, and the land of Israel.”

Here is the photo released this afternoon by the White House showing Gov. Mitt Romney in the Oval Office with President Barack Obama today. The two had a private lunch together that lasted about an hour:

CNN: Mitt Romney’s lunch at the White House Thursday was not how the former GOP nominee would have imagined it a month ago, but it did provide a postscript to this year’s punishing presidential battle.

The former candidate, whose motorcade during the campaign could shut down streets and stretch entire city blocks, arrived at a side entrance of the executive mansion in a single black Lincoln SUV. He sat in the front passenger seat.

The defeated Republican presidential candidate lunched on white turkey chili and southwestern grilled chicken salad with President Barack Obama in the private dining room, where their discussion centered on “America’s leadership in the world and the importance of maintaining that leadership position in the future,” according to a description of the lunch from the White House.

“They pledged to stay in touch, particularly if opportunities to work together on shared interests arise in the future,” read the statement from the White House, which also released a photo of the two men in the Oval Office. . . . Read More

Here is Democrat Rep. Hank Johnson actually suggesting we need a Constitutional Amendment that allows Congress to restrict Free Speech Rights of Corporations that are protected by the First Amendment!

Of course, this is the same Hank Johnson who actually suggested in a Congressional Hearing that the Island of Guam was in danger of “tipping over”:

Yet Hank Johnson just keeps running for office and continues to be re-elected.

Remember all the controversy over Sarah Palin’s “death panels” concern about ObamaCare? It seems Great Britain’s National Health Service (NHS), a picture of our future here in America thanks to Obama’s re-election, may be making Palin’s warning come to pass. Quite the contrast to the glorification of the NHS that took place during the Opening Ceremony of the 2012 Summer Olympics in London (above):

UK DAILY MAIL: Sick children are being discharged from NHS hospitals to die at home or in hospices on controversial ‘death pathways’.

Until now, end of life regime the Liverpool Care Pathway was thought to have involved only elderly and terminally-ill adults. But the Mail can reveal the practice of withdrawing food and fluid by tube is being used on young patients as well as severely disabled newborn babies.

One doctor has admitted starving and dehydrating ten babies to death in the neonatal unit of one hospital alone. Writing in a leading medical journal, the physician revealed the process can take an average of ten days during which a baby becomes ‘smaller and shrunken’.

The LCP – on which 130,000 elderly and terminally-ill adult patients die each year – is now the subject of an independent inquiry ordered by ministers.

The investigation, which will include child patients, will look at whether cash payments to hospitals to hit death pathway targets have influenced doctors’ decisions.

Medical critics of the LCP insist it is impossible to say when a patient will die and as a result the LCP death becomes a self-fulfilling prophecy. They say it is a form of euthanasia, used to clear hospital beds and save the NHS money. . . . Read More

Comforting.

The new Islamist President of Egypt – Mohamed Morsi – who just granted himself dictatorial powers, has rambled on about the movie “The Planet of the Apes” in an interview he did with Time Magazine:

TIME: . . . . We can cooperate, we can integrate. As much as we can. How can we do that? I think leaders in the world have a great responsibility in this. Human beings can live together.

I remember a movie. Which one? Planet of the Apes. The old version, not the new one. There is new one. Which is different. Not so good. It’s not expressing the reality as it was the first one. But at the end, I still remember, this is the conclusion: When the big monkey, he was head of the supreme court I think — in the movie! — and there was a big scientist working for him, cleaning things, has been chained there. And it was the planet of the apes after the destructive act of a big war, and atomic bombs and whatever in the movie. And the scientists was asking him to do something, this was 30 years ago: “Don’t forget you are a monkey.” He tells him, “don’t ask me about this dirty work,.” What did the big ape, the monkey say? He said, “you’re human, you did it [to] yourself. “That’s the conclusion. Can we do something better for ourselves?

I saw it 30 years ago. That is the role of the art. This is the very important role of art. Gone with the Wind has been treating social problems. Five in Hell. That was the Arabic title. Five Americans working behind German lines and they were using primitive military devices. I think it was Charles Bronson or something like that. My hard disk still carries a few things! . . .
