Disgraceful: MSNBC’s Chris Matthews Dismisses John McCain Questioning of Chuck Hagel by Using the ‘Angry Vietnam Vet’ “Flashback” Smear Against Him – Video 2/1/13
Chris Matthews has said a lot of pathetic things in his career. But this may be the worst.
Simply because Sen. John McCain dared to ask Chuck Hagel if he would admit how wrong he (and I might say, Barack Obama) was about the Surge Strategy in Iraq, Matthews smears McCain as having some kind of “flashback” to the torture and captivity he experienced for America. How patronizing can you get?
The Left is beside itself that one of Barack Obama’s nominees would be called on the carpet for having been abjectly wrong about one of the most important military strategies of the last 40 years in American History. That’s why the question was relevant to the man Obama wants to lead the Defense Department. Of course, in this case, we have a President who was just as wrong! But that’s not a reason to compound the mess by having a Secretary of Defense who is wrong for the job.
It was an insult to all Veterans to suggest that because a Veteran asks tough questions it’s because he is out of control somehow, having a “flashback” and cannot be taken seriously. He owes John McCain – and all Veterans – an apology for using the “flashback” smear to dismiss a totally reasonable and serious question.
