Sen. Ted Cruz Questioning on Benghazi Attack: It was 23 Days before Attack Scene was Secured; Military Not Asked to Secure It – Video 2/7/13
From two days ago, another round of outstanding questioning at a Senate Hearing by Texas Sen. Ted Cruz. He questioned Defense Secretary Leon Panetta and Joint Chiefs Chair Gen. Dempsey on the September 11, 2012 Benghazi Terrorist Attack that killed four Americans.
From his questioning, he succeeded in getting them to reveal:
* No request came to the Pentagon to secure the scene of the U.S. Consulate in Benghazi until 23 days after the attack. As Cruz pointed out to them, CNN had camera crews walking around the scene showing evidence just laying there. Cruz tied that into the added difficulty of finding and punishing those responsible since the scene was not secured for so long.
* The earliest possible time frame “boots on the ground” could have been in Benghazi was 13-15 hours from the time the attack began. It was over in 7 1/2 hours.
* When asked how quickly fighter aircraft could have been on the scene, no specific answer was ever given.
Panetta also dodged the question on whether they talked to Obama again after the initial briefing on the attack. Panetta talked about something else and never really answered yea or nay. He earlier had confirmed Obama never called back that night at any time to see how things were going in Benghazi.
