Democrat Rep. Adam Schiff on “Face the Nation” said it is unlikely airstrikes alone will be enough to push back Iranian-backed Houthi Rebels in Yemen. He warns that if the rebels launch Scud Missiles into Saudi Arabia, a ground war is very likely:


Rep. Adam Schiff (D-Calif.), the ranking member of the House Intelligence Committee, said Sunday that Saudi Arabian airstrikes supported by U.S. are unlikely to fend off a key rebel group in Yemen.

“We’re in a very dangerous place, certainly in Yemen. I think there is a real prospect of civil war here. It is probably unlikely that these airstrikes alone are going to be sufficient to repel the Houthis,” Schiff said on CBS’s “Face the Nation.”

“The best hope is that it prompts them to go back to negotiating table. But if the Houthis start launching Scud missiles into Saudi Arabia or incur across the border, then I think you are going to see a ground war, and there’s no telling where that ends up,” Schiff said.

President Obama authorized U.S. forces to provide logistical and intelligence support, the White House announced last week, for the Saudi airstrikes targeting the Shiite rebel forces, known as Houthis.
