Raw video shows a terrorist rocket flying over Tel Aviv just before being shot down by Israel’s “Iron Dome” Defense System. The person filming the rocket does a good job of following the rocket but you don’t quite see the impact of it being shot out of the sky. I’m sure it would be quite a harrowing thing to be there.
JERUSALEM POST: Third attack on central city in three days intercepted by fifth Iron Dome battery, deployed in Gush Dan earlier in the day; Palestinian terrorists fire 740 rockets into Israel since start of operation.
The Iron Dome intercepted two Iranian-made Fajr-5 missiles aimed at Tel Aviv on Saturday. The missiles marked the third attack on the heavily populated central city in as many days, after Palestinian terrorists from Gaza fired four missiles toward the financial capital on Thursday and Friday, prompting red alert air raid sirens to sound in the city.
While police said that one of the missiles landed in an open area, a military source told The Jerusalem Post that the Iron Dome intercepted both missiles.
The Defense Ministry deployed an upgraded Iron Dome battery in the Gush Dan area in the center of Israel on Saturday morning, after rushing its production in light of escalation. The battery is the fifth Iron Dome system operational in Israel.
Islamic Jihad leader Khalid Batsh said on Saturday that the launch of rockets at Tel Aviv from Gaza show “the rules of the game have changed in the region,” Palestinian news agency Ma’an reported.
The attack followed volley after volley of rockets aimed at southern towns on Saturday, as red alert sirens wailed repeatedly, warning residents to flee for cover. Two rockets also landed outside the capital Jerusalem on Friday. One rocket landed near a Palestinian village in the West Bank, shattering windows and scaring residents. Another struck a home in Ashdod directly, injuring five Israeli civilians. . . . Read More
Reports are out this morning that terrorists fired rockets at Israel yesterday from the Egyptian-controlled Sinai Peninsula:
THE WEEKLY STANDARD: Two major Israeli newspapers are reporting that rockets fired from Egypt have hit Israel.
“Terrorists in the Sinai Peninsula launched rockets into Israel Friday night,” reports the Jerusalem Post. “The rockets fell near an Israeli village on the southern border, causing some damage, but no injuries.”
The Israeli daily Haaretz reports, “Rockets fired from direction of Egypt toward Eshkol Regional Council.”
It appears no damage was reported in connection with the rocket fire from Egypt. Earlier today, the Egyptian prime minister visited Gaza to express solidarity with the Palestinians there.
This new front comes a day after a rocket landed near Tel Aviv and on the same day Israel’s capital Jerusalem was the target of rocket fire. Those attacks were courtesy of Hamas in the Gaza Strip. . . . Read More
This morning a rocket fired from the Egyptian Sinai Peninsula landed in the Southern Israeli town of Eilat:
UK DAILY MAIL: A popular Israeli tourist resort was hit by a rocket attack this morning.
The Red Sea destination of Eilat, hosting the European Triathlon Championships later this month, was already on high alert because of the upcoming Jewish Passover holiday starting this weekend.No-one was hurt in the attack, with police believing the missile was launched by Islamic militants from Egypt’s Sinai Peninsula.
Many overseas tourists are already in the area, and it is due to welcome more than 4,000 athletes for the gruelling cycle-swim-run event which starts on April 19.
No-one has yet claimed responsibility for the attack, in an area which has general escaped terrorist attacks in recent year. But Israel has been warning of growing lawlessness in Sinai following the uprising last year that overthrew the Egyptian regime of Hosni Mubarak. . . . Read More
You gotta love that Arab Spring.
Iranian Dictator Mahmoud Ahmadinejad has said once again that the “annihilation” of Israel is the goal of the Iranian regime. He was speaking to Ambassadors from Islamic Nations:
JERUSALEM POST: In a speech published on his website Thursday, Iranian President Mahmoud Ahmadinejad said the ultimate goal of world forces must be the annihilation of Israel.
Speaking to ambassadors from Islamic countries ahead of ‘Qods Day’ (‘Jerusalem Day’), an annual Iranian anti-Zionist event established in 1979 by Ayatollah Khomeini and which falls this year on August 17, Ahmadinejad said that a “horrible Zionist current” had been managing world affairs for “about 400 years.” . . .
. . . . He added: “Anyone who loves freedom and justice must strive for the annihilation of the Zionist regime in order to pave the way for world justice and freedom.” . . . Read More
In what has been characterized as a “bombshell,” President Obama sided with Palestinians against Israel during his Mideast speech when he revealed his support of the Palestinians’ demands that Israel pull back to their borders based on how they were before the 1967 Middle East war. Obama said, “We believe the borders of Israel and Palestine should be based on the 1967 lines with mutually agreed swaps…The Palestinian people must have the right to govern themselves and reach their full potential in a sovereign and contiguous state.”
UPDATED 2:40 PM ET: Added a more recent report that gives additional details on the bombing. While the report does not say it, I have seen other reports that indicate 1 person has been killed in the bombing.
A bomb has exploded near a Jerusalem bus stop today, reportedly injuring at least 25 people – some of them seriously. Initial reports that it was a suicide bomb are now unclear, with later reports saying it was a bomb planted near a bus stop. More as details emerge. . . .
Helen’s at it again.
Here is video of former White House Correspondent Helen Thomas speaking at an anti-Arab bias workshop in the Dearborn, Michigan area recently, where she once again attacked Israel and said she believes:
“Congress, the White House, and Hollywood, Wall Street, are owned by the Zionists. No question in my opinion.”
Helen Thomas was pushed into retirement earlier this year for making anti-Semitic remarks at a White House gathering. I guess at Helen’s age, it’s too much to hope that she might learn and change.
