Now that he is soaring in the polls in Iowa, Rick Santorum becomes a target for attack ads.
Here is one by Rick Perry that hammers Santorum for his support of “earmarks” during his time in Congress. In fact, the ad includes a clip of Santorum himself saying, “I have had a lot of earmarks. . . In fact, I’m very proud of all the earmarks I’ve put in bills.”
The ad ends with: “If Rick Santorum Wins – You Lose.”
Here is video of Sen. John McCain on the Senate Floor yesterday where he blasted Democrats for putting foward a 1924-page Omibus Spending Bill that is full of wasteful government spending.
McCain said Democrats are ignoring the clear message of the 2010 Midterm Elections – “Enough is enough.” McCain then held up the 1924-page bill that would total $1.1 Trillion. He said it is full of more than 39,000 earmarks totaling over $130 Billion. McCain pointed citizens to endingspending.com, where you can actually browse all the earmarks in the 2011 bill to fund the U.S. Government.
Here is video of Democrat Rep. Patrick Kennedy (Ted’s son) defending a $2 Million earmark for his district to build a “bike path.” Kennedy’s defense illustrates why our country is broke, and despite that fact, far-left progressives like Kennedy just want to keep driving the nation deeper in debt.
Kennedy defends his $2 Million Bike Path by pointing out the health concerns in America – particularly diabetes. He urges paying for the bike path in order to help people be more healthy.
How many people are really going to be healthier if the Federal Government builds another bike path? If you build a bike path in that Rhode Island location, shouldn’t you build them all over the country? That’s the problem. We don’t have the money to build bike paths all over the country, and we should not be spending $2 Million to build one in Patrick Kennedy’s district.
He then mocked concern over the nation’s debt by mindlessly attacking those who want to bring fiscal sanity to the Government by saying they don’t care about the “deficit” in the lives of children if Congress decides to cut spending.
Kennedy bizarrely ranted that:
“You can only make first grade once in your life – second grade once – third grade once……So if we decide to save money this year, too bad for that kid – because we, all of a sudden, decided to get serious about our deficit. Forget their deficit, that they’re going to live with for the rest of their lives in terms of human potential.”
Human potential?
So, the human potential of a person is dependent on how much more money the Federal Government decides to throw at education? That shows the warped thinking of the progressive Left. Human potential is determined by the God who created the individual. The Federal Government is not God, even though some lawmakers seem to think so. Look at all the children who grew up to be people of character, honor, and great achievement who lived long before the Federal Government began spending the huge sums of money it does on Education.
Kennedy displays the bizarre thinking of the Left, which has brought us to the place we are in as a nation. This thinking has warped our society, and has created an entitlement mentality on the part of a huge segment of our population. It is unsustainable. But despite that reality, the Left keeps railing for more money and more programs – more $2 Million “bike paths.” After all – we need it.
