As we approach Thanksgiving Day tomorrow, it is startling to realize just how many Americans are now on Food Stamps. This year, it’s a record 42.2 million Americans. Back during the 2012 GOP Nomination Race, Newt Gingrich (above) aptly described Barack Obama as “the Food Stamp President”:
US NEWS: More Americans will use food stamps to buy their Thanksgiving dinner this year than ever before, according to a new report from the nonprofit government watchdog group The Sunlight Foundation. . . . According to the U.S. Department of Agriculture, average participation in the Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program, or food stamp program, has increased 70 percent since 2007. . . .
This Thanksgiving, 42.2 million Americans will be on food stamps, according to the Economic Policy Institute. This is roughly the size of the populations of California and Connecticut combined.
Not surprisingly, feeding millions of Americans isn’t cheap. The cost of the SNAP program last year reached $72 billion, the highest to date, according to the Congressional Budget Office. . . . Read More
Barack Obama really is the “Food Stamp President.” Here is an ad being pushed by his administration through the USDA that encourages people to sign up for Food Stamps so they will be “fit” and “active” like “Margie.”
Under Barack Obama, the number of people on Food Stamps in the United States has swelled to one out of every seven Americans – up from 1 in 50 when the program began! Spending on Food Stamps has increased 100% under Obama. More than 80% of the Farm Bill spending goes to spending on Food Stamps:
Obama is trying make as many people as possible dependent on the Federal Government. Undoubtedly, he believes that’s votes in his pocket.
Rush Limbaugh reacts to President Obama’s “the private sector is doing fine” gaffe yesterday. Limbaugh said that in Obama’s World, twice as many people on Food Stamps means “the private sector is doing fine.” Limbaugh said that Obama thinks the more people he can get dependent on the Federal Government, the more votes it will mean for Democrats.
Here is video of Democrat Rep. Chaka Fattah saying what Democrats are counting on to keep the White House – the votes of people getting Government checks. In attacking the Paul Ryan Budget on MSNBC, Fattah told the always fair and impartial Rev. Al Sharpton:
“Those people who are unemployed are not going to be voting for the party that wants to cut their benefits, cut access to Food Stamps, cut Job Training.”
Let’s hope more people still would rather have a good paying job than have Food Stamps.
Here is video from tonight’s South Carolina Fox News GOP Presidential Debate, where Newt Gingrich brought to crowd to its feet with his combative response to a Juan Williams question about “Food Stamps” and the “Work Ethic.” This is the first time in this Presidential cycle there has been a standing ovation. THE top moment of the debate.
Can anyone listen to Democrat Rep. Jerrold Nadler here and not come away thinking that many of the leading Democrats are stark raving mad?
Nadler waxes eloquent here about the “fact” that the United States does not have a deficit problem:
“We don’t have a deficit problem right now . . . The real problem is we’re not taxing properly. . . .We talk about, “We have a budget deficit crisis” – No we don’t! We have a tax crisis. We have a crisis that we’re not taxing properly, and we have a recession and unemployment crisis. The way to get out of that unemployment crisis is to spend money on more food stamps, on aid to states and local governments. . . If we did that, unemployment would go down and tax receipts would go up. . .”
Here is video of Ed Schultz on MSNBC last night where he said that any comment about “food stamps is about black folks – it’s not about white folks.” He was referring to Newt Gingrich calling President Obama “the most successful Food Stamp President in history,” because under his leadership, there are now more Americans on Food Stamps than at any time in history – 47 million (1 in 6 Americans).
It is so ironic that Schultz uses this to accuse Newt Gingrich of (what else!) racism, when it is his own statement that is demeaning to African-Americans. There are actually many white people – and other races – on Food Stamps! But Schultz acts as if the only people in America who are on Food Stamps are black people! It’s as if in his twisted liberal mind, Food Stamps = Black people. How insulting can you get?
Gingrich was making an economic statement – not a racial statement. Barack Obama, for all the praise from a media willing to walk off a cliff with him, has been terrible for the U.S. Economy and American families. Prices are soaring at the grocery store, gas prices are near $4 a gallon, and his policies have put businesses in America in a holding pattern – afraid to expand and create jobs because they don’t trust his far-Left agenda that will impose higher taxes, more regulation, and ObamaCare upon them. That’s why it is very accurate to say that Barack Obama is the “Food Stamp” President. If Americans don’t vote him out of office next year, there will be even more on Food Stamps in the years to come.
Here is video of Newt Gingrich appearing on Meet the Press today where he was subjected to a ridiculous charge of racism by David Gregory because he recently hammered President Barack Obama for creating a “food stamp” society. Gingrich said in a recent speech that if success is to be measured by how many Americans are on Food Stamps (1 out of 6), then Obama is a great success.
Gregory played the clip of Gingrich’s statement, and then suggested to Gingrich that kind of language is “racially-tinged” because Obama is America’s “first Black President.”
Gingrich immediately reacted: “Oh, come on, David. That’s, that’s bizarre. That — this kind of automatic reference to racism — this is the President of the United States. The President of the United States has to be held accountable. Now, the idea that — and what I said is factually true — Forty-seven million Americans are on food stamps. One out of every six Americans is on food stamps. and to hide behind the charge of racism? I have — I have never said anything about President Obama which is racist.”
Gingrich did not back off one bit. He went on to explain that the policies Obama is following destroyed the city of Detroit, and will also destroy America. He said he wants to follow the path of Texas – the path of lower taxes and less regulation, which leads to job creation. Gingrich said this election will focus on the stark choice between “pay checks vs. Food Stamps.”
Gregory demonstrates that the liberal media will do everything it can to protect Obama. They will shamelessly play the race card at every turn to try and cow Republicans into going light on Obama. The GOP candidates must resist that tendency. There is nothing they can do to make the media like them, or even give them a fair shake. They MUST continue to do what Gingrich did here and make it clear what Obama is doing to the country. I believe many Americans will see through what they are doing, and are sick of the Left playing the race card to cover up their dismal record.
