Three new national polls are out on the 2012 GOP Presidential race, and all three show Gov. Mitt Romney with a lead over the field of candidates.

Texas Gov. Rick Perry has solidified himself as a strong challenger to Romney, coming in 2nd place in the last five national polls on the GOP race. Michele Bachmann and Herman Cain seem to have lost some steam, and Ron Paul continues to have a faithful following of between 6-10% on average.

The other thing that jumps out at you in all three of these polls is that Gov. Tim Pawlenty is shockingly weak, with only 2% support in each poll. He has to do well in the GOP Debate tonight, and in the Iowa Straw Poll on Saturday. He desperately needs something to jump start his campaign.

Three New National Polls Show Gov. Mitt Romney Leading GOP Presidential Field; Perry Solidifies Position as Strong 2nd Place Challenger – 8/11/11

A new Marist Poll out today shows Gov. Mitt Romney leading the GOP Presidential Field nationally. But the poll also shows Texas Gov. Rick Perry moving up fast, now tied for second place with former New York Mayor Rudy Giuliani.

Romney received support from 19% of those surveyed, with Giuliani and Perry both getting 13%. They were followed by Sarah Palin at 11%, and Michele Bachmann at 8%.

It appears Herman Cain’s momentum has ended, and he has fallen back, at least in this poll, to just 5%. Tim Pawlenty continues to be unable to get any traction, remaining mired in the lower-tier of candidates at 5%. Newt Gingrich’s campaign appears to be going nowhere, with him registering at only 2%.

New Poll Shows Romney Leading GOP Presidential Field; Texas Gov. Rick Perry Moving Up Fast

A new Marist College / McClatchey Newspaper Poll has Gov. Mitt Romney leading the pack of potential 2012 GOP Presidential nominees by four-points, with 20%. Gov. Mike Hukcabee is in second place with 16%, and Sarah Palin is in third with 13%. Former House Speaker Newt Gingrich comes in fourth at 10%.

In virtually all of the polls so far, these are the big four candidates for the GOP – Romney, Huckabee, Palin and Gingrich. It’s still unclear who among them will actually run. I would say it is very likely that Romney and Gingrich will run, with it being more unclear as to Palin and Huckabee. Gov. Tim Pawlenty is in the lower tier of candidates thus far, and he is likely to get in as well.
