Here is raw video of the moments just after Libyan Dictator Moammar Gadhafi was captured and before he was killed by rebel fighters. Gadhafi is clearly still alive in this video, and in the hands of rebels. He is bloodied and the scene is extremely chaotic.
Other video emerged yesterday of Gadhafi in the hands of rebels in his last moments, and then later of him dead. The new Libyan Government continues to say Gadhafi was killed in a crossfire.
Here is audio of Rush Limbaugh playing clips of “Calypso Louie”, as he calls him – Louis Farrakhan – criticizing President Barack Obama for going after Libyan Dictator Moammar Gadhafi. Obama’s longtime pastor, Jeremiah Wright, is close to Farrakhan and actually praised Gadhafi in years past.
Well, I guess this answers the question from earlier today as to whether Moammar Qaddafi was killed in an exchange of gunfire or as a prisoner of the former rebels. Assuming this footage is authentic, we see a bloodied but clearly alive Qaddafi, still recognizable despite the beating he has taken, trying to walk while in the grasp of his captors. The chaotic footage shows the mob trying to get at Qaddafi with their bare hands, with Qaddafi unable to resist, before the camera swings away towards fighters celebrating by shooting their weapons in the air. Be sure to watch it now, if you want to at all, because it may not last long on YouTube. . . (Read More)
Reuters is reporting that Libyan Dictator Moammar Gadhafi is dead – killed as his hometown of Sirte fell to forces of the new Libyan Government:
REUTERS: Former Libyan leader Muammar Gaddafi died of wounds suffered on Thursday as fighters battling to complete an eight-month-old uprising against his rule overran his hometown Sirte, Libya’s interim rulers said.
His killing, which came swiftly after his capture near Sirte, is the most dramatic single development in the Arab Spring revolts that have unseated rulers in Egypt and Tunisia and threatened the grip on power of the leaders of Syria and Yemen.
“He (Gaddafi) was also hit in his head,” National Transitional Council official Abdel Majid Mlegta told Reuters. “There was a lot of firing against his group and he died.” . . . Read More
Here is CNN International’s Jim Clancy and Michael Holmes, both veteran correspondents, discussing the question of where in the world Libyan Dictator Moammar Gadhafi is now that his compound has fallen to rebel forces.
The compound of Libyan Dictator Moammar Gadhafi has fallen to opposition rebels today. CNN’s Sara Sidner reports from inside Gadhafi’s compound in Tripoli, as rebel soldiers fire their guns in celebration. Sidner had to look for cover between two walls becuase of all the rounds being fired into the air.
The whereabouts of the long-time Libyan Dictator is unknown.
(The Blaze) — Although Libyan rebels only just took control over the capital city of Tripoli over the weekend, a draft version of a new constitution for the transitional state has allegedly been penned and appears online. What is perhaps most disturbing, however, is that the charter’s “principal source of legislation” will be Sharia law. Even with a new regime, “reform” still does not seem to be an operative word for a new Libya.
According to Part 1, Article 1 of the alleged draft: “Islam is the Religion of the State, and the principal source of legislation is Islamic Jurisprudence (Sharia).”Heritage points out that other phrases contained in the draft, such as “there shall be no crime or penalty except by virtue of the law” and “judges shall be independent, subject to no other authority but law and conscience” seem all the more foreboding given the basis for the country’s entire legislation will be Sharia law.
Reports today indicate that three of Libyan Dictator Moammar Gadhafi’s sons have been captured by rebel fighters. Here is audio of one of the sons – Muhamed Gadhafi – on the phone with a journalist when he screamed “They’re in my house!”
Here is a video report on the latest from Libya, where opposition rebel forces have not taken control of most of the the capital city of Tripoli. The report is from the city center, being renamed by the rebels “Martyr’s Square,” replacing the name given by Gadhafi – “Green Square.”
In the report, you hear rebels firing into the air in celebration, as well as firing at a poster of Dictator Moammar Gadhafi, which was taken down by the rebels. Reports indicate that three of Gadhafi’s sons have been captured by opposition forces. But, as of yet, the whereabouts of Gadhafi himself is still unknown.
Tonight, the end is near for Libyan Dictator Moammar Gadhafi.
TIME: After 42 long years of Muammar Gaddafi’s rule, thousands of people poured into the streets of the capital Tripoli late Sunday night, firing guns in the air and cheering a column of rebel pick-up trucks which converged on the city, apparently meeting no resistance from regime forces. “We are coming for you, frizz-head!” the Associated Press reported some rebel fighters as screaming, mocking Gaddafi to the delight of residents.
As rebels stormed into Tripoli, there had been no sign of Gaddafi. But after midnight, he made a last-ditch plea for his supporters to defend Tripoli, telling them to “pick up your weapons, there should be no fear.” Speaking from an unknown hiding place, the audio address lasted just about one minute, suggesting that the leader might be in an insecure location. Shortly after 1 a.m. Tripoli time Gaddafi was back on television for the fourth time in 24 hours, pleading for rural tribal leaders to march on Tripoli to fight the rebels. Sounding enraged, he ranted against the rebel fighters and NATO alike. “If Tripoli was to burn like Baghdad, why would you allow this to happen?” he said. He claimed there were other assets at his command. “The women who are trained in weapons might also fight.” . . . .Read More
Here is video of GOP Sen. John McCain on This Week yesterday where he blasted the GOP Presidential Field for moving back to an “Isolationist” posture when it comes to Foreign Policy. McCain defended U.S. action in Libya, and said it is important to continue the effort until Dictator Moammar Gadhafi is gone. McCain said he believes Gadhafi’s hold on power “is crumbling.”
Here is a video report on the news that Libyan Dictator Moammar Gadhafi’s son – Saif al Arab Gadhafi – has been killed in a NATO airstrike on the family compound in Tripoli. Three of Gadhafi’s grandsons were also reportedly killed in the strike. The report says there has been no independent confirmation of the deaths.
Here is video of Sen. Lindsey Graham on CNN’s “State of the Union” today where he said the current situation in Libya looks like a “stalemate.”
Graham recommends that NATO and the United States need to “cut the head of the snake off” – meaning he thinks we should begin a major bombing campaign on Libya’s Capital City of Tripoli, against Gadhafi’s inner circle, particularly his military headquarters. Graham believes that would force Gadhafi out of power. When Candy Crowley reminded Graham it is not part of the U.N. Mandate to get rid of Gadhafi, Graham said he does not think the U.S. should be constrained by the U.N. mandate that was largely shaped by “quasi-dictatorships” in Russia and China. In fact, Graham told Crowley he did not think there would be any world power that would react negatively to the U.S. acting to take Gadhafi out of power.
Here is a video report updating the situation in Libya. Dictator Moammar Gadhafi has rejected the Rebels terms for a ceasefire. The Rebels offered terms on the heels of their being forced to retreat by Gadhafi Forces East toward Benghazi. A spokesman for Gadhafi called the Rebel offer of a ceasefire, “a trick.”
Here is a video report from NBC’s Richard Engel in Libya. His report reveals the reality about the Libyan Rebels the U.S. is now supporting. Engel reports they are now discouraged and in full retreat in the face of Gadhafi’s forces.
Engel says Gadhafi’s forces are now using jeeps that look like the vehicles used by the Rebels – making it much harder for NATO aircraft to use airstrikes against them. He also reports the Rebels have weapons that they often don’t know how to use. In one case, Engels says he saw some Rebels attempting to fire a rocket – but they fired it in the wrong direction, backward, into a civilian area.
Virtually all the Rebel gains have now been erased, Engel reported. Gadhafi forces are now within 1 1/2 hours of Benghazi.
