The Prime Minister expressed his deep appreciation to the President and the American people for the United States’ investment in the Iron Dome rocket and mortar defense system, which has effectively defeated hundreds of incoming rockets from Gaza and saved countless Israeli lives. The President reiterated U.S. support for Israel’s right to defend itself, and expressed regret over the loss of Israeli and Palestinian civilian lives. Israeli Prime Mininster Benjamin Netanyahu is in the United States today, and will meet with President Obama at the White House. Their meeting is slated to begin at 11:15 AM ET, and the two will speak with reporters afterward, but with “no live TV or radio coverage.”
CBS News’ Mark Knoller tweets that Netanyahu will be “looking for clarification” from Obama on his call for Israel to accept the “1967 lines.”
After Obama and Netanyahu speak with reporters, Knoller reports they will “have a working lunch in the Old Family Dining Room in the White House Residence.”
