Obama and the Democrats have an insatiable appetite for more money out of the pockets of Americans. Despite having just raised taxes, Jay Carney makes it clear what we already knew – they have just begun to raise taxes. As Charles Krauthammer put it, “We have just begun to tax and to spend.”
Here is Chrarles Krauthammer’s take on Barack Obama and Nancy Pelosi’s attitude on higher taxes and spending – “with apologies to John Paul Jones.”
For those who may not remember, John Paul Jones famously said during the American Revolution, “I have not yet begun to fight,” when being pressed to surrender to the British.
Here is an ABC News report today on the “Taxmageddon” Showdown that looms ahead between President Obama, who wants to raise taxes, and the Republican Congress that wants no increase in tax rates. The report points out that the Congressional Budget Office estimates that President Obama’s desire to raise taxes on the wealthy could cost 200,000 jobs – something others say is “digestible.”
On his plane yesterday, Vice-President Joe Biden reportedly talk with the press on board and told them that Barack Obama’s two-point victory over Mitt Romney is a “clear sort-of mandate” to raise taxes:
WEEKLY STANDARD: “Well look, I think — You guys have probably looked at the internals of the vote more than I have so far,” said Biden. “But from what it appears is that, on the issue of the tax issue, there was a clear, a clear sort of mandate about people coming much closer to our view about how to deal with tax policy. I think we can move, I’d like to see us, I think we can do something on corporate taxes sooner than later. That would be positive, be a little confidence-building. And you know I just think it’s going to take time for the Republicans to sort of digest what the consequences for them internally. But i just think there’s too much, I’ve been saying to you all along and I know I may be the only guy – well, I think Clinton shares this view, President Clinton, we talked about it. But I think the fever will break. And you know, Barack’s re-elected so this sort of cause to keep a second term from happening’s done. He’s there for four years. So I think there’s going to be – I hope there’s going to be some real soul-searching about, on Republican Party, about what they’re willing to cooperate on.” . . . Read More
Here is video of President Barack Obama today proposing an extension of the Bush Tax Cuts for people making under $250,000 a year, but allowing them to expire for anyone making more. Obama would raise taxes on the income range that includes many small business owners, despite the weak economy and dismal jobs numbers. Republicans would leave the tax cuts in place for everyone, and some of Obama’s Democrat allies want the tax cuts extended for everyone making up to $1 million a year.
What else do you expect from Joe Biden?
Here is video from Fox & Friends this morning where Stuart Varney blasted Vice-President Joe Biden as “inaccurate, misleading, and irresponsible” for attacking Mitt Romney and his economic plan, dubbing the so-called “Buffet Rule,” that would make the evil rich pay their “fair share,” the “Romney Rule.” In actuality, Varney said Obama’s class warfare plan to soak the rich would not even scratch the surface of dealing with America’s debt problem, while Romney’s plan would lower overall tax rates but eliminate many loopholes that would bring in far more money to the U.S. Treasury. Not to mention, Romney’s economic plan would get the economy moving again, generating more revenue for business and more tax revenue for the Government.
The perfect slogan for Obama’s 2012 Presidential Campaign!
Here is video of a man at President Obama’s Town Hall Meeting today asking him, “Would you please raise my taxes?” Obama said he “appreciates the man’s sentiment.”
What a setup. This guy should be the national spokesman for Obama’s Re-Election Drive.
Weasel Zippers has the lowdown on the man who wants his taxes raised.
Here is video of Speaker of the House John Boehner responding to President Obama’s continued calls for a deal on raising the nation’s Debt Limit that includes tax increases. Boehner made it clear that Republicans will agree to no deal that includes raising taxes on Americans.
Here is video of Pat Buchanan on Morning Joe today where he said it would be “suicidal” for Republicans to give ground to Obama and the Democrats and agree to tax increases as part of a deal to raise the Debt Ceiling. Buchanan took on the entire panel who kept pleading with him that Republicans had to give ground and agree to some kind of “revenue enhancements” – code for raising taxes – in exchange for spending cuts. But Buchanan said it is not going to happen. He said he believes, in the end, “Obama will fold. . . . He will fold,” because he is “staring down the gun barrel of default.”
Buchanan said Republicans won’t agree to tax increases not only because of politics, but because of “principle”:
“Philosophically, they don’t believe you raise taxes when you got 9% unemployment. It’s not only politics, it is principle and philosophy. They think it’s the wrong way to go.”
Here is video of Donald Trump speaking in Nashua, New Hampshire tonight to a group of business owners, where he warned that if President Obama is re-elected, “I think your taxes are going to go through the roof.” Trump said he believes Obama is holding back on tax increases right now because of the upcoming election. But if Obama is re-elected, he will not have to worry about being elected again, and taxes will “go to a level we have not seen in a long time.”
Trump praised the killing of Osama Bin Laden, but reminded his listeners that without “enhanced interrogation” – which Trump then called “torture” – the U.S. would not have found and killed Bin Laden. Trump seemed comfortable with just using the word “torture,” because he said the 9/11 victims whom he “watched jump off the World Trade Center – that was torture.”
Here is a video report previewing President Obama’s speech today on his plans for the 2012 Budget. Obama is going to respond to GOP Rep. Paul Ryan’s Budget Plan released last week, and will reportedly propose higher taxes and some cuts in Medicare.
Here is complete video of President Obama speaking to the press today about the deal he has struck with Republicans to extend the Bush Tax Cuts (the current tax rates) for all Americans for the next two years. Obama took some questions as well, and strongly defended his actions against attacks from his own party for having compromised with Republicans.
Obama said he would fight extension of the tax cuts for wealthy Americans in 2012, and claimed Republicans have opposed the tax cuts for “middle-class” Americans (that is just not true).
Here is video from President Obama’s Press Conference today where he falsely claimed that Republicans had opposed extending tax cuts on the “middle-class.” Obama made the statement as he said he would oppose extending tax cuts for the wealthiest people in 2012, “just as I suspect the Republican Party may fight to end the middle-class tax cuts that I have championed, and that they’ve opposed.”
Republicans never opposed middle-class tax cuts in this battle. Instead, the GOP wanted to extend the Bush Tax Cuts for ALL Americans. Obama is already trying to frame the 2012 Campaign around this issue. He is shameless in saying whatever suits his purposes, whether there’s an ounce of truth in it or not.
Here is video of President Obama today announcing an agreement he has reached with Republicans to extend the Bush Tax Cuts for two years for all Americans. In return, unemployment benefits will be extended for 13 months, and a two-percent cut in payroll taxes will be passed for one-year to encourage employers to hire more workers:
WASHINGTON POST: President Obama and congressional Republicans agreed Monday to a tentative deal that would extend for two years all the Bush-era income tax breaks set to expire on Dec. 31, continue unemployment benefits for an additional 13 months and cut payroll taxes for workers to encourage employers to start hiring………Read More
Game – Set – Match for the GOP.
UPDATED 7:20 AM CT: Here is another report from this morning on the signs of a deal on Tax Cuts. NBC News’ Savannah Guthrie reports that Democrats are not happy:
Here is a video report on the progress being made on extending the Bush Tax Cuts (which is actually extending the current tax rates) for all Americans. It appears President Obama is ready to give in on extending the Bush Tax Cuts for everyone for at least two years, in return for an extension of Unemployment Insurance (which would have likely been extended anyway). In other words, the GOP is about to achieve a near total victory in the tax cut battle with Obama. Many Democrats are not at all pleased. We’ll see what the final agreement turns out to be.
