Shock Poll: Rasmussen National Poll Shows Newt Gingrich Surging to Within 3 Points of Romney Following Stellar Debate Performance – 1/18/12

A shocking new national poll out by Rasmussen today shows Newt Gingrich surging to within three points of Mitt Romney, 30%-27%, in the GOP Presidential Race. The one-day poll was done yesterday, January 17, entirely after the GOP Presidential Debate on Monday night. Romney has been leading by double-digits in virtually every national poll, but this may indicate Gingrich is getting a huge bounce off of his outstanding debate performance.

Yet to be seen is whether Gingrich will get the same kind of massive bounce in South Carolina. If he does, he’s got a real shot at winning there on Saturday. We’ll see as new polls come out on the South Carolina race done after Monday night’s debate. Adding to the drama is that there will be another debate, this time on CNN, tomorrow night.

Mike Huckabee GOP Candidate Forum to Air (Recorded) Tonight at 8 PM ET; Newt Gingrich Reportedly “Loudly Booed” when Criticizing Mitt Romney and Bain Capital – 1/14/12

Tonight on Fox News Channel at 8:00 PM ET, a Mike Huckabee Candidate Forum from South Carolina will be aired. The forum took place this afternoon in Charleston with five of the six candidates (all but Ron Paul took party) participating, and was recorded to be aired tonight.

News is out that attendees apparently “loudly booed” Newt Gingrich at the forum when he tried to criticize Mitt Romney’s record at Bain Capital. That should be interesting to see when it airs this evening:

ABC NEWS: At a forum hosted by Mike Huckabee with 800 undecided South Carolina Republicans, Newt Gingrich was loudly booed when he criticized Mitt Romney’s record at Bain Capital, according to a Republican who attended the closed-press event.

“They were really angry,” said the attendee. The forum will be aired on Fox News tonight.

The booing came when Gingrich mentioned Romney’s name. I am told Gingrich was gently reprimanded by Huckabee who reminded him that the ground rules for the forum stipulated that the candidate were not allowed to attack each other. . . . Read More

Here is video of Mike Huckabee on Fox & Friends this morning where he reacted to Sen. Fred Thompson saying it is completely false to claim that he colluded with the John McCain Campaign in 2008 to deny Mike Huckabee a victory in the South Carolina GOP Primary.

Huckabee claims his campaign was told by three McCain staffers that such a deal had taken place. Thompson got 15% of the vote, allowing McCain to win South Carolina and go on to the 2008 GOP Nomination.
